Mike Duncan, Psy.D.

Clinical Psychologist

Welcome to Duncan Psychotherapy, a private psychotherapy practice dedicated to providing existential and mindfulness-based individual psychotherapy for adults. My aim is to create a therapeutic space free of taboo and judgment where you can explore, discover, and heal.

Depth-oriented.
Process-focused.
Relationship-centered.

Contact me now to set up a free 15-minute consultation.  I am currently accepting new clients beginning in June when I plan to expand my availability.

I am now in-network with Providence Health Plans and am actively working to get credentialed with Regence BCBS.

My Background

Existential Mindfulness-based
Psychotherapy

I am a licensed psychologist and, since 2012, have worked in urban and rural community mental health, residential care, social services, academic medicine, and private practice. My work is grounded in trauma-informed care helping clients embrace authenticity, navigate transitions, strengthen relationships, recover from burnout, and heal from personal, intergenerational, and systemic trauma. It's important to me to create a therapeutic space that encourages radical honesty and empowerment through philosophical inquiry, mindfulness, and a deepening awareness of self.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and both my master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Pacific University in Oregon. My graduate research and doctoral dissertation examined risk and protective factors among sexual minority youth, and the ways internalized sexual prejudice influences sense of belonging for sexual minority graduate students.

Clinically, I have worked with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ communities, medical professionals at every stage of training, men court-mandated to treatment for domestic violence, and others seeking to live more meaningful and authentic lives. In addition to my private practice, I serve as an assistant professor of psychiatry at OHSU.  My work at OHSU has included working with physicians addressing wellness and burnout prevention, lecturing to residents and doctoral psychology students on sexuality, gender, and relationship diversity, and providing outpatient treatment to patients referred from within the OHSU system.  I also supervise psychiatry residents in psychotherapy training.  Prior to OHSU, I worked at Prism Health, where I helped establish the behavioral health program and worked primarily with transgender, nonbinary, and queer folks in the Portland community.
